Keep Children Safe & Healthy During the Pandemic
Children are likely to witness something unusual when their families are stranded at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staying indoors, taking online courses, not seeing their friends, and avoiding playgrounds have changed their way of life and routine. As a consequence, they experience anxiety and restlessness. Parents must make special efforts to keep their children optimistic, happy, and safe during these periods.
Here are some ideas about how you can continue to help your children's physical and mental health needs during this uncertain period.
1. Practice Good Hygiene
For kids, ensuring good hygiene is of the utmost importance. Show your child how to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water. Hands should be washed regularly and before eating. Hand sanitizer is safe for babies and infants, but it's important to keep an eye on them when they're using it. Make sure they're fully dry and don't let them lick their hands right away.
Make sure that everybody in your family (aged 2 and higher) is wearing a mask. Also, double-check that your child is wearing his or her masks properly and securely.
When your child coughs or sneezes, teach them to always cover their mouth. If the kid doesn't have a tissue paper or a face mask, it's best to cough or sneeze on the inside of the elbow. After that, make sure they wash their hands for 20 seconds with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer.
2. Practice Social Distancing
During this pandemic, it is advised that you keep your children away from other people. They can be inside or outside for walks and playtime, but they should be at least 6 feet away from neighbors, and people who are sick. If at all possible, stop bringing them into the store with you.
3. Maintain A Healthy Diet & Get Enough Rest
Children need more sleep than adults to maintain their health. Set an age-appropriate bedtime for your child to help them get the rest they need. Children need a nutritious, well-balanced diet rich in vitamins and nutrients in addition to sleep. They can maintain proper body function and avoid disease by eating a well-balanced diet.
4. Help Your Child Stay Active
Your child's physical and mental health will also benefit from regular physical activity. Set a good example by living an active lifestyle and including physical exercise in your family's everyday activities. Basketball, dancing, yoga, riding a bike, or even playing hide-and-seek is all simple things that can be beneficial.
5. Support Them Emotionally
For kids, lockdown may be leading to increased anxiety, and frustration. So, parents should look for signs of depression and anxiety in their children regularly. Take time out of your day to connect with your children, engage them in fun activities, and have meaningful conversations with them. Also, we encourage you to use digital technology to maintain your relationships with family and friends, such as phone calls, messages, and video calls.
We all know that this is a difficult time for all families. Consider incorporating these suggestions into your daily life, as they will have a significant effect on both you and your children.
Stay healthy and stay home, as always!
